Cockapoo Rescue

A Cockerpoo is a delightful little dog that is well suited to being a family pet. They breed is extremely friendly and very affectionate. They are one of the best breeds for people that suffer with per related allergies to keep, as they don't shed that much hair. Their energy levels are easily manageable and they're cute as anything ... so why is it that so many Cockerpoo's end up in dog shelters and rescue centers? What are the three main reasons?

1. Dogs Grow And So Will Your Cockapoo

It may seem an obvious point to make but that 'oh so cute' puppy will grow. Its features will change and its characteristics will change as it matures. Too many people fall in love with the 'puppy stage' of the Cockerpoo's life and when that honeymoon period is over, unbelievably no longer wish to care for the dog. Also be aware as your Cockerpoo grows so will the amount of exercise it requires increase. As mentioned previously, a Cockapoo has a moderate level of energy for a dog - it doesn't have the boundless enthusiasm of its breed ancestor the Cocker Spaniel, however it will still need exercising.

2. Fashion Changes

Ever hankered for that latest fashion accessory - a watch, a bag, a dog? A dog is not a fashion accessory. There are too many Cockerpoo's in dog shelters that are the victims of fashion. Bought for their owners 'latest look' they are simply pushed away when the trends change or when they become disinterested and move on to something new. Looking after a dog is long term commitment, and not part a spring collection.

3. Circumstance

Owning and caring for a Cockerpoo (or any dog) involves commitment;

  • time - the time spent with you dog builds up the trust and affection. You will also have 'find the time' to exercise you dog.
  • monetary - you dog will need feeding, medical care, insurance and other things which all need to be paid for.

Not fully appreciating and realizing the commitment of owning a dog means that many dogs end up in dog centers only a couple of months after they were purchased - with "I didn't realize it would cost so much" being cited as the reason they are no longer wanted. Please ensure that you can commit before you get a dog.

Adopt A Cockerpoo Rescue

If you think you can commit to owning a dog and you're doing it for the right reasons then you're all ready to go! Go get your dog! But wait! Have you considered adopting a Cockapoo rescue rather than buying straight from a breeder? Rescue dogs contrary to popular belief aren't damaged goods, they aren't second best, they are victims of circumstance (through no fault of their own) and they deserve to be cared for and loved as much as any dog. Breeders will breed dogs as long as there is a demand - but sadly some of these dogs will end up in shelters, so rather than over breeding, let’s home some of the Cockapoos that are currently in shelter.
